The human body is an amazing thing. Do physicians and nurses who know many of the wonders and features of our bodies, ever stop, shake their heads and say “Wow”? Just look at the growth of babies into adults. Their minds develop. They learn to talk, walk and run. They stretch higher and higher, requiring larger clothes on a regular basis. They learn and remember a vast array of information. They grow into adults who can discuss and debate ethics, explore the universe with science and train to run marathons. The human body is composed of many different parts and each functions as the body needs.
Our spiritual growth is much the same. Amazing changes occur in our character when we are connected to Jesus. His Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience and so much more. Romans 8:6 tells us that a mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.
Not so the unspiritual mind. Colossians 2:18-19 describe it this way, “Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.” (NIV)
If you want to grow in your faith and character this year, stay connected to Jesus. Spiritual life flows from him.
