Psalms 40 – Thu – 22-12-08

Cancer. We hate that word, don’t we? Many of us know someone fighting the disease. We may follow them on a website like Caring Bridge. Cancer is far less lethal than it used to be, but it remains a serious disease. No one wants to be diagnosed with cancer.

When someone we love fights a deadly disease like cancer,  we scour the internet for information. We seek a cure, a treatment, something to defeat the disease. We investigate doctors, hospitals and clinics, looking for the best.

Imagine someone you love fighting a deadly disease. You find a doctor and visit. But the doctor says nothing can be done. Now imagine the doctor knew a treatment sure to cure the disease, but refused to prescribe it. Would you be angry?

Sometimes, remaining silent is wrong, a great shame. This is true for someone who knows a cure and refuses to share it. It’s also true when someone refuses to share God’s salvation. Listen to Psalms 40:9-10, “I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know, O LORD. I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.” (NIV)

Remember, don’t hold back the message of God’s love, truth and salvation. Speak to those who will listen.
