Song of Ascents – Mon – 23-03-06

When I was a teenager, I rolled an old International Model H farm tractor into the ditch. The tractor had no cab or roll bar, so I landed on my stomach staring at a rock with the tractor upside down over me. The metal seat pressed into my lower back. But I was unhurt because the way the tractor landed in the ditch prevented it crushing me. Those who saw it happen marveled that I was not killed. The good Lord was watching over me.

The Lord’s protection is the theme of Psalms 121:1-8:
“I lift up my eyes to the hills–where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you–the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” (NIV 1984)

One reason we worship God is that he cares for us and watches over us. Have you had some close calls? Have you sensed his protection? Stop and take a moment to thank the God who watches over you.
