Do you forget things? Some people are so forgetful they couldn’t keep track of their head if it wasn’t attached. We recently heard friends tell about growing up in a family prone to forgetfulness. After piling into the car and driving down the street, mom or one of the children would remember something. They’d circle the block to retrieve it. Sometimes they made more than one trip. Their father started calling the loops their victory lap.
An old practice to remember something was tying a string around your finger. I don’t see many people do that, but I do see sticky notes. Some people use sticky notes to remind themselves of important things. I stick notes to the breakfast counter, the car dash or to the coaster on my desk. I’m sure you’ve done something similar, right?
This reminds me of Proverbs 3:3-4, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
It looks like centuries ago people also struggled to remember things. The verse urges tying something to your neck or writing it on the heart. What is it? Love and faithfulness. Don’t you think we could use more of that today? Don’t forget to be loving and faithful today. People, and God, will think well of you.
