Wisdom – Wed – 21-10-27

I used to work for a company that had a factory in Mexico. At that time, the local labor market was very tight. In order to find workers, the company hired a vehicle that would drive through the streets of the community. The vehicle had loudspeakers that constantly broadcast a message about the money and benefits we were offering. It also explained how to apply for a job at the factory.

I think of this when I read Proverbs 1:20-23, which says, “Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech: ‘How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.’”(NIV)

In this passage, wisdom is personified as a woman broadcasting a message in the streets. She laments that people do not listen. The following verses promise that people will have no wisdom when the storms of life overtake them. She finishes her speech with these words: “but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” (Proverbs 1:33 NIV)

You see, gaining wisdom is easy. Just listen to the teachings of God about right and wrong.
