Who is the scariest person you have ever met? I bet he or she doesn’t compare to the man Jesus met in Gadara. This man was crazy, possessed by evil spirits. He lived naked in the tombs and hills. He cried out and cut himself with stones. People tried to restrain him with chains. But he broke the chains and leg irons! He’d been that way a long time.
But Jesus cast the demons out of him and into a herd of swine. The man was restored to his right mind. As Jesus prepared to leave, Mark 5:18-19 says, “As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. Jesus did not let him, but said, ‘Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.” (NIV)
Most of us don’t have the same kind of scary past as the demon possessed man. But Jesus has worked in our lives. He’s forgiven us and made us a part of his people. Jesus would also say to us “Go, tell how much the Lord has done for you.” Today, look for ways to tell others what Jesus has done for you!
