“Are we there yet?” Did you ever ask that question of your parents while they drove you on a long trip? Or maybe you asked, “How much longer?” Waiting is hard! Have you ever been waiting for your food at a restaurant and wondered how much longer it would take? I think people by nature are impatient. That’s why we like things that are fast, like microwaves, fast food and peppy automobiles. That’s why people in cars honk the horn when the car at the head of the line doesn’t quickly notice the traffic light turned green. And people get irritable when they have to wait!
So, do you find it hard to wait for the Lord’s return? James 5:7-9 says, “Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!”
This is sort of like the reply parents give to the “How much longer?” question. When you are near the destination, they say, “Just a little bit longer.” That’s part of James message to us as well. Today, remind yourself that the Lord’s coming is near!
