Faith Heroes – Fri – 21-11-12

Jesus once told his disciples, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20 NIV) Of course, we need to remember that faith doesn’t move the mountain. God moves the mountain. The faith is in God.

This verse reminds me of Abraham’s faith mentioned in Hebrews 11:11, “By faith Abraham, even though he was past age–and Sarah herself was barren–was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.” Yes, God promised Abraham descendants, but he didn’t fulfill the promise until Abraham was 100 and Sarah was over 90 years old! I also like the humor in the next verse, “And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.”

Abraham encourages us to trust in God to deliver on his promises, even if reason says the chances are “as good as dead”! He has promised to care for our daily needs, if we will seek first his kingdom and righteousness. He has also promised to be with us always. You see, just a speck of faith in the infinite God, can witness spectacular results!
