Growth Is Normal – Thu – 23-01-05

Growth is normal for babies and children. Doctors and parents monitor a child’s weight and height, especially in the first few years. My mother tells the story of the doctor measuring my length as an infant. Mom says he got it wrong because my knee was bent. I really don’t remember!

Although individual children vary in their growth patterns, the normal distribution is known. Physical growth falling far below the normal range often indicates a problem. Those problems can include digestive or hormonal disorders. Every parent hopes their child grows physically and mentally.

Our spiritual life is the same. The normal pattern for Christians is growth. We grow in faith, knowledge and character. The rate of growth varies between individuals, but growth is the norm. We should be concerned if we or a fellow Christian fails to grow. It may indicate a problem. We should hope for the growth of each other.

Listen to 2 Corinthians 10:15, “Neither do we go beyond our limits by boasting of work done by others. Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our area of activity among you will greatly expand.” This passage says Paul’s hope for the Corinthians’ support of his missionary efforts was based on the expectation of the continual growth of their faith. Spiritual growth is normal for followers of Jesus. I hope your faith in Jesus grows today and every day.
