Happy New Year – Sun – 23-01-01

Happy New Years! I hope you enjoy a great day and the start of a great year. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Some years I’ve made them. Other years I haven’t. Many people make resolutions to lose weight after all the holiday feasting. Last year, improving diet was the most common resolution in the United States. The other most common resolutions, in order, were to pursue a career ambition, spend more time with the family, start a hobby and spend less time on social media.*

Today, I encourage you to stop and evaluate your relationship with Jesus. How are you doing in following him? Consider 2 Peter 3:17-18, “Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” (NIV)

Did you notice the phrase “since you already know this”? To what was Peter referring? The previous verses discuss the return of Jesus when the earth will be destroyed with fire, along with the fact that God is patient to offer salvation. We know these facts. That’s why we must avoid following erroneous teaching and, instead, grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. Make your resolution to grow in Christ this year.
