Have you ever wondered how things work? I enjoy magazines like Popular Mechanics and Popular Science because they explain how different things work. I’ve also watched videos showing everything from making a table from an old stump to processing and pitting cherries in a canning factory. Another one I remember from over twenty years ago showed the manufacture of graham crackers.
Have you ever wondered how things work? What about the gospel? Would you like to know how salvation works? One passage explaining what God did through Jesus is Romans 3:25-26 “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished– he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.”
The crucifixion of Jesus was a sacrifice to pay the price for disobedience to God. It satisfied God’s justice. That’s what an atonement is. God is just. The demands of his law must be satisfied. But God is also able to remove our guilt. He justifies us through our faith in Jesus. The death of Jesus to demonstrate God’s love only makes sense when we realize he paid the penalty we deserved. Praise God for the indescribable gift of his only son!
