Blessings In Christ – Wed – 22-09-14

Have you ever had good things lavished on you? I was thinking about this and thought of friends in Thailand. Elaine and I visited a few years ago and joined them visiting churches. The churches were in villages nestled in the mountains of northern Thailand. The reception our friends gave was lavish. After the long flight, they took us to their home where we showered and ate lunch before we loaded into the trucks for the drive to the mountains. Every morning of the trip, she prepared our breakfast. At the end of our trip, they treated us with a visit to a park where we watched demonstrations of the traditional use of elephants. We even rode one. They also gave us a scrumptious dinner in a fancy restaurant. Their actions fit the definition of lavish, which means to give in great amounts or without limit.

Ephesians 1:7-8 lists one of our spiritual blessings. It says, “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.” (NIV)

God’s grace was lavished on us through Jesus’ death. The word redemption refers to paying the price to free a slave. The price God paid to free us from sin was indeed vast. Take a moment today to thank and praise God for the blessings he has lavished on you.
