Did you ever write something down so you wouldn’t forget it? I’ve seen people jot a phone number on their palm when they didn’t have paper. Many of us use a paper shopping list. Others jot out sticky notes and plant them on the refrigerator, the counter, mirror or door frame. I sometime use them to place a note to myself on my desk. Walk through any office and you’ll find at least one computer screen adorned with sticky notes

The act of writing something down and posting it helps us remember. Maybe that’s why Deuteronomy 11:18-21 stresses an ancient practice much like sticky notes. Speaking of God’s commands, it says, “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.” (NIV)

God’s word is important to remember and observe. Take a moment today to jot down a verse of scripture on a sticky note and plant it in a place it can remind you of Him.
