During the pandemic, all kinds of information circulated about Covid. Some scientists and physicians even published information that disagreed with the government’s advice. Then there’s the news media. They refuse to cover stories damaging to some politicians, but turn around and attack other politicians. Social media isn’t any better. The news media and social media both use fact checkers to reduce the so-called “fake news.” But fact checkers are people. They make mistakes and they also have agendas. Deception is prevalent in modern life.
We shouldn’t be surprised. Deception has been present since almost the beginning. Remember the serpent in the Garden of Eden? He flat out lied to Eve. Genesis 3:4-6 tells the story, ‘“You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.’(NIV)
This verse reminds us that we all can be deceived. Eve saw the fruit was beautiful, tasty and would give her knowledge. Those are all good reasons to want something. But she was still wrong to eat it and violate God’s command. Remember, good reasons always exist to do bad things. Be sure to obey God.
