Do you get the Monday blues? You know, do you groan and complain when it is time to go back to work after the weekend. We’ve all done that, right? We drag ourselves out of bed and plod off to work. Work seems like a burden or a curse at times. Often, it produces a lot of stress in our lives. It’s hard to remember that even paradise had work. That’s right, God gave work to Adam in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 says, “The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Maybe we need to change our view of work!
I read somewhere this past week that interest in gardening surged when the pandemic erupted in 2020. I don’t know if it was because people were worried about food production or because they just wanted to enjoy nature. Maybe it was just for stress relief.
I enjoy gardening for several reasons. The plants and flowers are pretty and the produce is tasty. But it is work to prepare the soil, weed the plants and harvest the fruit and vegetables. Maybe there’s just something therapeutic about work. God made us to be creative and productive. A balanced work life is part of God’s plan for our lives. I hope you are being creative and productive. And I hope you keep it in balance with rest and other priorities.
