Resurrection – Wed – 22-04-20

Spring is here and I am looking forward to planting the garden. Elaine and I will put radish, spinach, bean, okra and zucchini seeds in the ground. Years ago, we even started tomatoes from seed, growing them indoors before transplanting outside. But today, we find it easier to just buy a couple of tomato plants!

Planting seeds tells us something about the resurrection from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:35-38 says, ‘But someone may ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body.’ (NIV)

You know, a little tomato seed is so different from the plant and fruit it produces. After the seed sprouts, it grows tall and produces the tomatoes so many people love. Likewise, the bodies we have now will die. But just because we die now, does not mean the resurrection will never happen. We will be raised with a body that is very different.

If you plant flower or vegetable seeds this spring, stop for a moment and consider the resurrection from the dead Jesus has promised those who follow him!
