Resurrection – Tue – 22-04-19

Earlier this week, I said that the most important event in history was the death and resurrection of Jesus. So, what would be the second most important event in human history? I can think of a lot of candidates for that honor, can’t you? How about the invention of the wheel? Or the discovery of yeast? The harnessing of electricity has certainly changed things. As did the invention of gunpowder, the development of the airplane or splitting the atom. But none of these are as important as another. The second most important event in human history must surely be the sin of Adam and Eve, commonly called the Fall.

Why would this be so important? Because it introduced death into the world. Listen to 1 Corinthians 15:20-23, “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.” (NIV)

So, if the Fall introduced death, that brings us back to the resurrection of Jesus. He defeats death! He is the first to rise from the grave. And we who belong to him will also rise when he comes again!
