On Sunday, we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. So, this week, the podcast will look at highlights from the ministry of Jesus. Today, we’ll look at how his ministry began. About three and a half years before his crucifixion, Jesus went to the Jordan River and was baptized by John. This began his ministry. It also clearly identified who Jesus was. Listen to Mark 1:9-11, ‘At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”’ (NIV)
Even before Jesus’ first miracle, God declared Jesus was his son. Not just his son, but loved and well-pleasing to him. God also continued to provide evidence that he sent Jesus through multiple miracles over the next few years. As Nicodemus said, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.” (John 3:2 NIV)
Take a moment today to remember that Jesus is the Son of God, born through a miracle and dearly loved by him. And be sure to thank God for sending Jesus!
