Palm Sunday – Sun – 22-04-10

Today is Palm Sunday. On this day centuries ago, Jesus entered Jerusalem is a simple parade, riding on a young donkey. Luke 19:36-38 describes the scene, ‘As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”’ (NIV)

Much like Air Force One is a symbol of the United States President, Riding the donkey was the symbol of a king of peace. Jesus was hailed as king and people rejoiced!

In fact, an appropriate song for today could be Joy to the World. Though we sing it at Christmas, it is really about the coming of the king. Remember the lyrics?

Joy to the world the Lord is come, let earth receive her king;
Let every heart prepare him room and heaven and nature sing.
No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove,
The glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love.

Today, celebrate Jesus as the king that redeems us and rules over all!
