One of the most fascinating miracles performed by Jesus is recorded in Mark 5:24-30. “A large crowd followed and pressed around him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, ‘If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.’ Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, ‘Who touched my clothes?’” (NIV) Mark continues to describe how the woman fell at Jesus’ feet and told him the whole truth.
I can’t imagine the desperation this woman must have felt. She had suffered a long time. But the desperation gave way to hope when she heard about Jesus. As the crowds pressed about Jesus like a mosh pit at a rock concert, she strained and reach out to touch his cloak.
Do we see Jesus as the answer to our problems? Are we willing to go against the crowd, to reach, stretch and strain to connect with him? We should. Because he has the power to change our lives!
