Who was the second person to hear an announcement of Jesus’ birth? We know that Mary was the first. Are you thinking Joseph was second? Maybe, we don’t really know for sure. But I think it more likely that the second person to receive an announcement of Jesus’ birth was Mary’s relative, Elizabeth.

Luke 1:39-45 reads, “At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!’” (NIV)

Talk about an interesting announcement! Mary heard about Jesus’ birth from an angel. Elizabeth heard the news through her unborn child! When the baby leaped, the Holy Spirit reveal the message to Elizabeth.

So, what did Elizabeth do? She shared the news in a loud voice! Today, let’s share the news of Jesus’ birth loudly! Shout it out, if you’d like. Or walk about your day singing a Christmas carol.
