You know, mothers of small children often repeat themselves. That’s because children need repetition and prompting. I’m sure you’ve experienced this: a small child receives something and mom says, “What do you say?” She is prompting the child to say “thank you.”
This week, the United States has a holiday that prompts us to be thankful to God. This week, the podcast will focus on being thankful. We’ll look at different reasons to be thankful.
One of the easiest reasons to be thankful is the salvation God gives to us. Psalm 95:1-2 says, “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.” (NIV)
God is the rock of our salvation. In other words, our salvation is secure and solid – like a huge rock. This isn’t just a boulder, but an outcropping of bedrock.
Notice also the Psalm tells us to shout or sing our praise and thanksgiving. Many songs have been written about being thankful. One oldie was written by Don Moen in 1986. The lyrics tell us, “Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the Holy One. Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.”*
Today, take a moment to sing your favorite song of thanksgiving to God. Of course, if you prefer, you can just shout it out!
