What will happen next? Do you feel that way? In 2020 we first had the Covid pandemic. That was followed by rioting and protests against racism. Then lockdowns spread, then mask mandates. We endured a divisive election with lots of questioning of the results. Then the January 6 riot occurred. The government spent trillions of dollars and declared a vaccine mandate. Now prices are rising steadily and the supply-chain is struggling. What will happen next?
It’s a good time to look at Jacob and his example of faith. Of all the details of his life, the thing that is memorialized in Hebrews 11:21 is this, “By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.”(NIV)
Where is the faith in blessing Joseph’s sons? Jacob actually blessed the boys in the opposite order that Joseph wanted. This probably has something to do with it, but I think there’s more here. Jacob had decided to take his family to a foreign land and live there in his old age – following God’s leading to preserve the family. On his death bed, his blessing essentially made his two grandsons joint heirs with his sons. He promised that God would bless their future greatly.
