Wisdom – Thu – 21-10-28

Do you remember when metal detectors became popular? People began sweeping through the countryside in search of buried treasure. Many would spend hours and days searching. It became their hobby.

I wonder what they think about Ole Ginnerup Schytz? Ole had never used a metal detector before. He was trying it out on a former classmate’s land in Vindelev, Denmark, last December. A few hours later, Ole discovered one of the largest treasures ever uncovered in the country. It contained over 2 pounds of gold consisting of medallions, coins and jewelry from 1,500 years ago. It was probably buried by a chieftan.* I’m sure Ole’s find has spurred many others to intensify their search for treasure!

If only the same energy would be spent acquiring wisdom! Listen to Proverbs 2:1-5, “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver  and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.” (NIV)

What a powerful description of the effort to search out wisdom! And you know what? Unlike searching for buried treasure, if you put out the effort, you will find wisdom and knowledge!
