Favorite Verse – Tue – 21-08-10



I was speaking recently and asked the audience to name the biggest amount of money they could imagine. They couldn’t say something like “all the money in the world.” They had to give a specific dollar amount. One person spoke up and said, “A quadrillion dollars.” When I asked if anyone could think of more, another replied, “A quadrillion quadrillion dollars.” Now that’s a lot of money! But, given a bit of time, I’m sure you could think of an even bigger number.

Speaking of large numbers, scientists have worked to measure the size of the Milky Way Galaxy. The distance across is truly mind-boggling! And yet the universe is far bigger! You and I can think of some exceptionally large things!

This brings me to my favorite verse in the New Testament. In fact, it is my favorite in the entire Bible. Ephesians 3:20-21 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

This is a mind-blowing passage! God can do immeasurably more than we can imagine — way more than thinking of a quadrillion quadrillion dollars or the distance across the universe!

Remember this verse when things look impossible. The simple fact is, we have no clue what God can do!
