Miracle of Knowledge – Fri – 21-08-06

We live in an information age. Billions of bits of data are assembled by governments and major corporations. They pull data from your computer, phone, web searches and social media posts. They pull data from all kinds of other sources. Vast computer networks sift and sort, identify and track, classify and predict everything from the weather to the search term you are using on a search engine. Why? Because knowledge is power.

A few of Jesus’ miracles seem to be more about knowledge than manipulating nature or healing people. One example, is in Luke 5. Jesus tells Peter and his fishing partners to put their nets in the deep water. Peter was skeptical of the advice. He had been out all night and had caught nothing. He was the professional fisherman and Jesus was a carpenter. But he agreed and lowered the nets where Jesus indicated. The huge haul of fish began to rip their nets. They called another boat alongside. When they pulled the fish into the two boats, they were so full they began to sink.

How did Jesus know where the fish were? Whether this was a miracle where he gathered the fish or one where he knew where the fish were gathered, there is one thing we know: when we are discouraged, follow what Jesus tells us. He knows how to break the nets and fill your boat!
