Whatever Is Pure – Thu – 21-03-18

It must be human nature to enjoy playing in the mud. Children stomp through puddles, make mud pies or just let the mud squish between their toes. Some adult runners enjoy races that take them through mud or other grime. Many adults love to take their 4-wheel drive vehicles mudding. The deeper the mud, the better.  When I was in college, the grassy area behind the dorm would collect water. Several of the male students would challenge each other into sliding contests. They’d run and dive onto their bellies in the grassy mud to see how far they could slide. It just seems that playing in mud is fun!

However, living in mud is not fun. Have you ever been camping when the skies opened? Trudging through mud between a tent, the shower house and the picnic shelter is no fun at all! Wet mud seems to get everywhere. What’s even worse is if mud contaminates your food! We may enjoy making a mud pie, but no one wants to eat one.

James 3:17 (NIV) says “the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure.” You see the wisdom of the world is a muddy mixture. It seems to have some good advice, but lots of dirt is mixed in. Don’t try to live by the muddy mess of the world’s values. Live by the pure wisdom that comes from heaven. Let your mind consume heaven’s pure wisdom.
